Facial Recognition: Contactless Time Punch and Health Screening

Remember when the term “hands-free” became popular with the rise of Bluetooth compatibility in cars? Well with the rise of COVID-19 we are all adopting the term “contactless”. To stay with the times, Innovative has recently added a “contactless” way for employees to clock in/out utilizing facial recognition! With the newly introduced NoahFace (as in know a face – get it?!) technology, employees can walk up, not touch a button, and punch in for work, all with the scan of their face.

How It Works

When ready to clock in for a shift, the employee will stand about 2 feet away from the iPad and look at the screen. The camera on the iPad will scan their face and use facial recognition to quickly find the appropriate employee profile. From there, you as the employer gets to choose what happens next! It can be as simple as a confirmation screen that the employee has been clocked in and ready for work OR you can choose to have your employee sign off on some attestation questions, designate a cost center, and even take a temperature screen (additional cost for thermal temperature scanner). Of course, right now everyone is using the attestation questions to comply with COVID-19 related health screening questions, but it is completely customizable to your needs. And when your employee is ready to clock out, they just follow the same process as before – as easy as that! Check out this quick video to see it in action.

Required Equipment & Setup

  • WebTime Module enabled for your company so the contactless punches can be synced with employee timesheets. Not currently using this Innovative module? Not a problem! Reach out to us at BusinessSolutions@ibspayroll.com and we can chat about getting you all set up.
  • 32GB iPad (no other brand of tablet is compatible at this time). The current retail price for this iPad is $329.
  • Internet access: Wi-Fi or ethernet.  Punches can be collected offline, if your internet connection is down or you are working at an offsite location, then will sync with the WebTime module’s timesheets the next time you have an internet connection.
  • Tablet mount at a 90 degree angle either on a wall or desktop is recommended for easiest use by all employees. Check out Fusion – Tablet Wall Mounts for some great options! Be mindful of the placement of the mount as you will want your iPad next to a power outlet (Power over Ethernet can also be used).
